finding the perfect black dress…

I have been getting quite a lot of emails asking me about the type of black strapless dress I need in order to create the Helena dress, so I decided it was time to write a post about it.

The black strapless dress will actually be used as the base of the dress so there are a few specificiations that must be followed:

1. The bust area must have boning on the sides – this keeps your boobs from being the center of attention when you’re dancing!
2. Make sure the dress is made from a semi-hard fabric such as rayon, taffeta, or any kind of blend. It is best to stay away from silk or something really stretchy.
3. I would prefer to work with a dress that is floor length so that I can alter it properly, but if you cannot find one, make sure the dress isnt shorter than your knee.
4. The shape of the dress should be A-line (A dress silhouette that is narrower at the top, flaring gently wider toward the bottom thereby resembling the letter “A”).

If you’re still unsure if the dress you have in mind is one that is compatible to be made into the Helena dress, feel free to contact me at: renee@kinkychinky.org or leave me a comment and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
